Rise & Kinda Shine: An Espresso for People Who Function on Spite and Dark Chocolate

Rise & Kinda Shine: An Espresso for People Who Function on Spite and Dark Chocolate

We're not going to tell you to "seize the day." You know what the day is. You're already in it.

What we will tell you is that Rise & Kinda Shine is a medium espresso roast that makes the first twenty minutes of being awake significantly more tolerable. That's the pitch. That's the whole thing.

Where It Comes From

Rise & Kinda Shine is a blend of South American and Indonesian beans, small-batch roasted in Vancouver, WA. Each component is selected for what it brings to the cup, not just what looks good on a label.

What It Actually Tastes Like

The flavor notes on the bag are Semi-Sweet Dark Chocolate, Butterscotch, and Dark Cherry. That's accurate and worth unpacking.

The dark chocolate is the foundation. It's not bitter, not astringent, not the kind of coffee that punishes you for drinking it black. It's structured and round. The butterscotch is what makes it smooth without being sweet, a richness that lingers without asking anything of you. The dark cherry is subtle, more of a brightness underneath than a fruit-forward flavor.

Together they make a coffee that reads as classic without being boring. It holds up in milk. It holds up as a straight espresso. It's the kind of blend that doesn't require you to be paying close attention to be good, which is ideal for mornings.

The roast level is medium, which for espresso means you get the origin character from the beans without any of the harsh edges that push too dark. The South American component brings the sweetness. The Indonesian component brings depth and body. Neither one is trying to take over.

Why Espresso Roast

Not everyone reaches for an espresso roast as their daily coffee, and that's reasonable. But this one earns it.

Espresso roasts are built for pressure extraction, which means they're designed to pull forward sweetness and body and push bitterness to the background. Brewed through a standard drip or pour over, that same profile just means a more forgiving, full-bodied cup. Less acidity, more warmth.

Rise & Kinda Shine works as espresso, obviously. But it also works in a French press, an auto drip, or anything else you're running on a Tuesday morning without full cognitive function.

The Name

"Ease into the day. No sparkle required."

That's the tagline on the bag, and it's the honest version of every motivational coffee brand that tells you to crush your goals before 6am. We don't believe in crushing things before coffee. We barely believe in goals before coffee. Rise & Kinda Shine is for people who show up, get through it, and consider that sufficient.

It is sufficient.

Rise & Kinda Shine is available in 10oz bags, whole bean. If your morning deserves something that doesn't make things worse, this is a reasonable place to start.
